How can we communicate with nothing but shapes? This all-encompassing question has popped up quite a bit; with Jamie we've used dots and lines, with Michael it's been cropped letterforms. Now we've faced the challenge of using our three dimensional letters to speak about opposing graphic qualities, which surprisingly turned out to be even harder than using 2D elements. Learning to identify and employ such subtle visual techniques is proving to be a mind-boggling (but not impossible) task. It's very much like learning a language; we have to get the technical aspects down, but technical knowledge is nothing without a thorough understanding of colloquial nuances! Our new language is graphic design, and it's a tough one to learn. I thought my Japanese class was going to be hard! In comparison, learning to speak using new words is much easier than learning to see things from a new point of view.
